This common-rail high-pressure fuel injector is intended to deliver fuel to the engine precisely for optimal efficiency.  Controlling the amount of fuel injected into the engine combustion chamber, where air is mixed with the fuel and combustion occurs, is its main function as an injector in the fuel system.  Diesel, hydrogen and natural gas all contain chemical energy that is converted into motor power. This is done within the combustion chamber.
